Yemen : US military releases footage of attacks on Houthi targets
The US Central Command (CENTCOM) on Wednesday released footage of its attacks carried out at the end of last year on what it said were military targets of the Houthi group in Yemen.
"On December 30 and 31, the US Central Command conducted strikes against Iranian-backed Houthi targets," CENTCOM posted on X, alongside the video.
It added that it attacked the Houthi group's "command and control centers, advanced weapons production and storage sites, and a coastal radar facility."
CENTCOM also said that the facilities "were supporting Houthi attacks on US Navy ships and commercial vessels in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden."
On Dec. 31, the Houthi group said US and UK warplanes launched 12 airstrikes on the Yemeni capital Sanaa, targeting the al-Ardi Complex, which houses the Defense Ministry headquarters, and the 22nd May Complex, which houses the Information Ministry premises in central Sanaa.
The US strikes against Houthi targets in Yemen come amid an exchange of attacks between the group on one side and the US, UK and Israel on the other side, with the latest attacks by the Houthis against US aircraft carrier USS Harry Truman and missile attacks on Israel.
The Houthis, in solidarity with Gaza, which has been facing a genocidal Israeli war since October 2023, have targeted Israeli cargo ships or ones linked with Tel Aviv in the Red Sea with missiles and drones, vowing to continue until the attacks on the enclave end.
Since the beginning of 2024, a coalition led by the US has been carrying out airstrikes that it said target Houthi locations in Yemen in response to the group’s Red Sea attacks. They have been occasionally met with retaliation from the Houthis.
With the intervention of Washington and London and escalating tensions, the Houthis announced that they consider all American and British ships military targets.
