Netanyahu Pledges a "Strong Response" to Houthi Attacks

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has vowed to take decisive action against the Houthi rebels following a missile strike from Yemen that landed near Tel Aviv, injuring 16 people. In a statement released by his office, Netanyahu emphasized Israel's commitment to countering threats from the Iranian-backed Houthis, likening their actions to those of Hamas and Hezbollah.
The missile attack, which occurred on December 21, 2024, marked the sixth such strike by the Houthis in December alone. Despite Israel's air defense systems intercepting many of the missiles, some managed to cause significant damage, including injuries and destruction of property.
Netanyahu's response underscores Israel's broader strategy to dismantle Iranian proxies in the region. He stated, "As we have acted forcefully against the armed branches of the Iranian axis of evil, we will act against the Houthis with strength, determination, and wisdom." The Israeli military has already conducted airstrikes on Houthi-controlled areas in Yemen, targeting missile storage facilities and command centers.
The escalation comes amid growing concerns over the Houthis' impact on global navigation and international security. The United States has also joined the effort, launching airstrikes against Houthi targets in Yemen in response to their attacks on international vessels in the Red Sea.
Netanyahu's pledge signals a firm stance against the Houthis, as Israel seeks to protect its citizens and maintain regional stability. The situation remains tense, with further developments expected in the coming weeks.
