Yemeni Minister of Information, Muammar Al-Eryani, has warned of potential acts of genocide by the Iran-backed Houthi militia in the village of Hanaka Al-Masoud, located in Qifa, Al-Qurayshiyah district, Al-Bayda governorate. The warning comes after the militia stormed the village following a heavy bombardment of homes and places of worship using heavy weaponry and drones. The assault was preceded by a ten-day siege and accompanied by a total blockade of the area, cutting off access to telecommunications and the internet while imposing a media blackout.

Local sources report that indiscriminate shelling by Houthi forces on civilian homes has resulted in numerous casualties, including women and children. The attacks have also destroyed around 20 homes. Moreover, the militia has reportedly prevented medical teams from providing aid to the wounded and blocked the delivery of food supplies to besieged residents.

According to reports from the region, nearly 10,000 residents, living in approximately 2,000 homes, are trapped in a state of fear and panic due to the ongoing brutal assaults. These include retaliatory actions, arbitrary arrests targeting children and the elderly, home invasions, and widespread looting of personal belongings such as gold, cash, traditional daggers (janbiyas), and firearms.

Minister Al-Eryani expressed shock at the continued international silence regarding the atrocities committed by the Houthi militia in various regions under their control. He stressed that this silence emboldens the militia to persist with its aggressive policies, which flagrantly disregard human life and constitute unprecedented violations of human rights and international laws.

The minister called on the international community, the United Nations, and human rights organizations to urgently intervene to stop these heinous crimes and protect civilians. He also urged the immediate designation of the Houthi militia as a “global terrorist organization” and demanded that its leaders be brought before international criminal courts to face justice for their grave violations and ensure accountability for their actions.
