UN Report: Military Escalation in Hadramawt Triggers New Wave of Displacement in Yemen
MARIB — A recent escalation of military operations in Yemen’s eastern Hadramawt governorate has forced hundreds of families to flee toward neighboring Marib, according to a report released Wednesday by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).
OCHA said the fighting, particularly in and around the city of Seiyun, displaced 774 families — totaling 5,418 individuals — between early December and December 13, 2025. Most of the newly displaced have settled in Marib city center and Al-Wadi district.
Humanitarian partners in Marib have mobilized to assist the arrivals. The Rapid Response Mechanism (RRM) provided immediate life-saving aid, while the Food Security and Agriculture Cluster (FSAC) distributed 200 additional food baskets to help meet urgent needs.
The report underscores the continuing fragility of Yemen’s security situation, with Marib remaining a primary destination for internally displaced persons despite already hosting large numbers of families uprooted by years of conflict.
