384 People Displaced in Yemen in One Week Due to Floods and Armed Conflict
Aden – At least 384 people were displaced across Yemen during the past week as a result of torrential floods and localized armed clashes, according to humanitarian monitoring groups and local authorities.
The displacements occurred primarily in the governorates of Al Mahwit, Hajjah, and Ma’rib, where heavy seasonal rains destroyed homes, damaged infrastructure, and triggered flash floods that swept through vulnerable communities. In parallel, renewed skirmishes between rival factions in parts of Taiz and Al Hodeidah forced dozens of families to flee their homes in search of safety.
Humanitarian agencies operating in Yemen have activated rapid response mechanisms to provide emergency shelter, food, and medical assistance to the newly displaced. However, access remains limited in several conflict-affected zones, and poor road conditions caused by flooding have further hampered relief efforts.
“This convergence of climate shocks and armed violence is deepening the displacement crisis in Yemen,” said a field coordinator with a leading international NGO. “Many of those affected have already been displaced multiple times and are now facing heightened protection risks.”
The Internal Displacement Monitoring Centre (IDMC) previously reported that Yemen registered over 492,000 disaster-related displacements in 2024 alone, with floods accounting for the vast majority. The situation remains volatile, with humanitarian actors warning that continued rainfall and insecurity could trigger further displacement in the coming weeks.
Yemen’s protracted conflict, now in its tenth year, has left millions without access to basic services, while climate-related disasters continue to erode the resilience of already fragile communities.
