Yemenia Airways Inaugurates First Flight to Mokha International Airport
Mokha – Yemenia Airways has officially launched its first commercial flight to Mokha International Airport, marking a historic milestone in the country’s aviation and infrastructure development.
The inaugural flight departed on Sunday, carrying a delegation that included Presidential Leadership Council member Brigadier General Tareq Saleh, who was en route to Brazil to attend the COP30 Climate Summit.
The landing of the national carrier’s aircraft at Mokha International Airport signals the beginning of regular air operations from the newly rehabilitated facility, which is located in Taiz Governorate along Yemen’s strategic Red Sea coast. The airport has undergone extensive upgrades to meet international standards and is expected to serve as a vital hub for both passengers and cargo.
Yemenia Airways stated that the launch reflects its commitment to expanding domestic air connectivity, supporting humanitarian access, and boosting economic activity in liberated areas. The airline is expected to announce a full flight schedule from Mokha in the coming days.
Prime Minister Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak had earlier instructed the swift completion of operational procedures to enable commercial flights from Mokha, emphasizing the importance of the airport in linking western coastal regions with major cities across Yemen.
The opening of Mokha International Airport is seen as a strategic move to revitalize the port city and improve mobility for residents and aid organizations operating in the region. It also offers a new gateway for international travel, particularly for officials and business delegations.
