Yemen's Gov't Forces Remove Protest Camps in Taiz After Deadly Blast Near Islah Party Headquarters
Taiz — Local sources reported Thursday that security forces dismantled protest camps set up along Jamal Street in central Taiz, following a deadly explosion outside the headquarters of the Islah Party that killed two people, including a child, and injured nine others, among them women and schoolgirls.
According to witnesses, the blast occurred during rush hour as students were returning from midterm exams, triggering panic in the crowded area. The wounded were transported to hospitals across the city for treatment.
The protest camps had been erected in mid-September after the assassination of Aftehan al-Mashhri, director of the Cleaning and Improvement Fund in Taiz governorate. Over time, dozens of relatives of victims of killings in the city joined the sit-in, demanding accountability and justice.
Thursday’s removal of the camps came in the immediate aftermath of the explosion, which has heightened concerns over security in Taiz and underscored the vulnerability of civilians in the conflict-ridden city
