UN Fund Appoints Francesco Galiieti as New Representative in Yemen
Aden -- The United Nations has announced the appointment of Francesco Galiieti as the new representative of one of its key funds in Yemen, in a move aimed at enhancing cooperation with the Yemeni government and advancing humanitarian and development goals.
Galiieti, an experienced international development specialist, will lead efforts to coordinate UN-funded programs across Yemen, focusing on areas such as poverty reduction, institutional support, and sustainable recovery. His appointment comes at a critical time as Yemen continues to grapple with economic hardship, conflict-related displacement, and widespread humanitarian needs.
In a statement issued by the UN fund, officials emphasized that Galiieti’s role will be pivotal in strengthening strategic partnerships with national institutions and aligning international assistance with Yemen’s development priorities. He is expected to engage closely with government ministries, civil society organizations, and donor agencies to ensure effective delivery of aid and long-term impact.
Galiieti succeeds the previous representative whose term concluded earlier this year. His background includes extensive work in fragile and conflict-affected settings, with a focus on governance, resilience, and multilateral coordination.
The UN reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Yemen’s path toward peace and recovery, noting that Galiieti’s leadership will help reinforce transparency, accountability, and inclusive development in one of the world’s most complex humanitarian environments.
