Masam Project Clears 3,491 Mines and Unexploded Ordnance in Yemen
Aden – The Saudi humanitarian demining initiative Project Masam announced that its engineering teams have dismantled and removed 3,491 landmines and unexploded ordnance across Yemen since the beginning of December.
According to the project’s latest field report, the cleared devices included anti‑tank and anti‑personnel mines, improvised explosive devices (IEDs), and other unexploded remnants of war planted by Houthi militias in residential areas, roads, and farmland.
Masam emphasized that its operations aim to protect civilians and restore safe access to communities affected by years of conflict. The project has repeatedly warned that indiscriminate planting of mines by the Houthis continues to pose a grave threat to lives and livelihoods, particularly in liberated regions.
Since its launch in 2018, Project Masam has removed tens of thousands of mines and explosive devices, underscoring its role as one of the largest humanitarian demining efforts in Yemen.
