Mukalla — The General Authority for Antiquities and Museums in Hadramout Governorate has officially launched restoration work on the western wing of the historic Al-Qaiti Palace in the city of Mukalla. 

The wing houses the Mukalla Museum, a key cultural landmark in the region.

The restoration project is being funded by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and is being implemented by the Doan Foundation for Development. 

The initiative aims to preserve the architectural and historical integrity of the palace, which stands as a symbol of Hadramout’s rich heritage and royal legacy.

Officials from the Antiquities Authority emphasized the importance of the project in safeguarding Yemen’s cultural identity and promoting sustainable heritage tourism. 

The restoration will address structural damage and deterioration caused by time and environmental factors, ensuring the museum’s continued role in educating future generations.

The Al-Qaiti Palace, once the seat of the sultans of Hadramout, is renowned for its unique blend of Islamic and colonial architectural styles. The Mukalla Museum within its walls showcases artifacts, manuscripts, and exhibits that chronicle the region’s history and traditions.
