Sotheby’s to Auction Rare Yemenite Torah Scroll
NewYourk -- The renowned auction house Sotheby’s has revealed plans to present one of the rarest surviving Yemenite Torah scrolls in its upcoming Important Judaica sale.
The scroll, carbon-dated to the mid-15th century, is regarded as a remarkable testament to the ancient Jewish community of Yemen.
According to Sotheby’s, the scroll features a distinctive square script unique to Yemenite scribal tradition, echoing forms used in the Second Temple period. This stylistic continuity makes the artifact not only a religious treasure but also a cultural link to early Jewish history.
