Washington Reaffirms Support for Yemen’s Legitimate Government and Counterterrorism Operations

Aden – The United States has reiterated its unwavering commitment to supporting Yemen’s internationally recognized government and intensifying efforts to combat terrorism across the region, amid ongoing instability and humanitarian challenges.
Speaking during a recent policy briefing, U.S. Special Envoy for Yemen Timothy Lenderking emphasized that restoring legitimate state institutions remains a cornerstone of American foreign policy in the country.
“A unified and prosperous Yemen, at peace with itself and its neighbors, is essential to our security and regional stability,” Lenderking stated, underscoring Washington’s backing for the UN-led peace process and the Presidential Leadership Council formed in April 2022.
The U.S. continues to provide diplomatic, economic, and military support to the Yemeni government based in Aden, while urging all parties to uphold the truce and engage constructively in negotiations.
American officials have also voiced concern over escalating Houthi attacks in the Red Sea, which have targeted commercial vessels and disrupted humanitarian aid routes.
“These reckless actions are acts of terrorism and threaten global maritime security,” Lenderking warned.
In response, the U.S. has designated the Houthis as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist organization and is working with international partners to enforce UN Security Council Resolution 2722, demanding an end to such hostilities.
Beyond security, Washington remains one of Yemen’s largest humanitarian donors, having provided over $700 million in aid since 2017, benefiting millions of civilians affected by the conflict.
Prime Minister Maeen Abdulmalik praised the strategic partnership, noting that U.S. support has been vital in defending Yemen’s sovereignty and countering extremist threats.
“Our alliance with the United States spans political, economic, and military domains, and we are committed to advancing shared goals for peace and stability,” he said during a diplomatic ceremony in Riyadh.
As Yemen stands at a critical juncture, U.S. officials reaffirm that their engagement will persist until a durable political solution is achieved and terrorism is decisively defeated.
