Aden — A moderate earthquake measuring 5.25 on the Richter scale struck east of the Gulf of Aden early Wednesday afternoon, according to regional seismic monitoring agencies.

The quake occurred at approximately 1:02 PM local time in Yemen, centered near the Owen Fracture Zone — a tectonically active area located roughly 210 kilometers south of Yemen’s coastline. 

The tremor originated beneath the seabed, minimizing its impact on coastal populations and infrastructure.

No damages or casualties have been reported so far. 

Local authorities and marine navigation offices continue to monitor the situation closely, although no tsunami warning has been issued.

The Gulf of Aden sits on the boundary between the Arabian and Indian tectonic plates, making it prone to occasional seismic activity. Today's event serves as a reminder of the region’s geological volatility.
