Yemen to Launch First National Falcon Auction in Mukalla
Mukalla — Yemen is set to host its first-ever National Falcon Auction on November 15 in the coastal city of Mukalla, coinciding with World Falconry Day, in a landmark effort to revive traditional falconry and promote environmental heritage.
Organized by the Yemeni Falconry Association in partnership with the Ministry of Environment and Tourism, the event will bring together falconers, breeders, and conservationists from across the country. It aims to spotlight falconry as a cultural legacy and encourage sustainable practices in wildlife protection.
The auction will feature a range of falcon breeds, including the revered saker and peregrine falcons, with proceeds supporting conservation programs and youth training initiatives. Organizers hope the event will become an annual tradition, positioning Yemen as a regional hub for responsible falconry.
“This is more than an auction—it’s a celebration of identity and ecology,” said Dr. Nabil al-Qadhi, head of the organizing committee. “By aligning with World Falconry Day, we’re sending a message that Yemen’s heritage belongs on the global stage.”
In addition to the auction, the event will include educational panels on falcon care, anti-poaching strategies, and the role of raptors in Yemen’s ecosystems. The initiative reflects growing interest in falconry tourism and the establishment of breeding centers that meet international standards.
The launch in Mukalla is expected to draw wide participation from local tribes, cultural institutions, and environmental advocates, reinforcing falconry’s role as a bridge between tradition and ecological stewardship.
